Lens Extension Tube With Nikon Auto Focus Standard Kit (18-55mm) Lens For Macro Photography – real time findings
This article is based on my real time finding while using a Manual Lens Extension Tube with Nikon D3100 standard kit lens, i have been using lens extension tube for Nikon with bigger lenses like 28-200mm or 28 – 300mm, never find any problem to use a manual lens extension with Auto focus lenses (kit lenses).
To understand the facts, one must know about the defination of Lens Extension Tube & the algorithem it works on.
What is an Lens Extension Tube? How it is look like & what are the features?
An Extension tube is a camera lens accessory used to increase the distance between camera lens & camera body, which result optimum increment in macro power of a lens. The lens extension is mainly used in Macro photography. It look like a long barrel, mainly consist of five section of He mount (to attach to camera body), SHE Mount (to attach camera lens) & interchangable sections varies in size mostly 6mm, 12mm & 24mm length.
As a photographer use close up lenses of differenet power like +1, +2, +4 or macro. A lens extension tube works in same algorithem, you may increase the macro power by interchanging three sections.
What is Nikon Mount Extension Tube?
A lens extension tube made for Nikon F Mount.
There are two versions of Nikon Extension Tubes available in the market known as Nikon Auto Focus Lens Extension Tube & Nikon Manual Focus Lens Extension Tube.
The Auto Focus Nikon Extension Tube is costlier as compare to manual focus Nikon Extension Tube. Since, it is the basic functional difference causes the major price difference.
Only functional difference between manual & auto focus extension tube is that the manual focus tube will not work with an auto focus lens where lens aperture is controlled electronically & there is no manual setting for lens aperture.
For example, a standard kit lens (18 – 55mm) of Nikon D3100 will not work with manual focus Nikon lens extension tube since, one can not have access to control lens aperture manually. However, if any lens with Nikon F mount has a manual aperture setting – One can use a Nikon Mount Manual Focus Lens Extension Tubes.
Most of the lenses other then standard kit lenses has manual aperture setting available in Nikon camera body Mounts.
A Nikon Auto Lens Extension Tube will work in auto as well as manual mode, so if you want to invest an item which work on both the version, A Nikon Auto Lens Extension Tube may be a better choice.
Points to be consider while purchasing a Nikon Lens Extension Tube are
1) Kind of lenses you have in your photographic arsenol
2) Future Requirment of similar or advance lenses
3) Investment Budget
4) Durability
5) Warrenty & Repaires
6) Spares
If you consider above points while your purchasing, definately it will an addition to your photographic gadget in a right price & as per requirement.
